Some people spend their entire life trying to find what makes them happy. They are always looking for that thing or that someone that will make a difference in their life, someone or something that will make everything right for them. Most of the time the answer is quite simply the way they look at things needs to change. It is very difficult to have a good attitude if you do not have a positive outlook on things. If you wake up every day wondering what is going to happen that will ruin your day, that is exactly what you will find.

Let me give you an example; There are two employees that work at the same company, on the same shift at the same assembly area with the same supervisor. The first employee says, “I hate my job; my boss is always looking over my shoulder. I know he doesn’t trust me; he just won’t leave me alone.” The second employee says, ”I love my job; my boss is always right there waiting to help me in any way I need to get my work done.”

These are two employees describing the exact same job from two different perspectives, the positive and the negative. Our perspective on life usually sets the tone for how our day will go. It is very easy to tell someone to stop being negative but you cannot just flip a switch and change. You first have to want to change and then start making a conscious effort to change.

Start everyday thinking about the things you have to be thankful for. It doesn’t have to be a lot of things but start a list, even if it is just one or two items it is a starting point you can build on. Do this every day so it becomes routine and in a very short period of time you will be in the habit of thinking of the positive things and not the negative. It is a process and takes some effort on your part but most good things in life do take some effort. Sooner than you think, you will not wake up wondering what will happen today but instead what new opportunities today will have for you. The negative thinking will be replaced with positive thoughts and you will look forward to what the day will bring. You will have programed yourself for success and the new outlook will motivate you more than you can imagine.

Winston Churchill once said, “The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”

Your mind will work just as hard to make you fail as it will to make you succeed; the choice is yours as to what type of seed you plant. A farmer cannot plant corn and grow oranges just as you cannot have negative thoughts and reap positive results. Continue to replace the negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Stop saying "I can’t" and start thinking about how you can achieve your goals. A whole new world will be open to you through your positive thinking and what could possibly be more motivating?
